Assistant Coach Gehrig Rowe

Gehrig has been training in different forms of martial arts and self defense since 2017 starting with Karate. In January 2019 Gehrig entered and won a Kyokushin Karate fight. He started training at MSTA in 2021.

What he most enjoys about MSTA is the variety that is offered, "MSTA offers the most variety of the places I have trained at. You can learn from a variety of martial arts and self defense practices to mix and match what works best for you" Gehrig primary trains in Jeet Kune Do and Muay Thai at MSTA.

On top of martial arts training Gehrig competes in powerlifting and holds a few state records in USPA and WNPF. In training Gehrig has a deadlift of 705 pounds, Squat 556 pounds, and Bench Press of 390 pounds.

What Gehrig training consists of is a combination of his bodybuilding/powerlifting routines, martial arts workouts, and running to keep the body conditioned and functional. Furthest distance he has run is 15 miles and fastest mile is 5:53.

"Training in martial arts is a very important aspect of my life. Before I had any training experience in combat sports or self defense I found myself in situations where I was vulnerable and uncertain if I could actually defend myself.”

Since training I am aware of what I am realistically able to do and am taught self control to avoid unnecessary conflict. Also being surrounded with other martial artists teaches you to be more mindful of your surroundings when out in public to keep yourself safe.

This training improves the mind to be more critical and have situational awareness. I believe it is important for every well meaning person to train in some physical discipline to keep them and their loved ones safe."
